  • Liz Hempshall – my story so far
After several career breaks over a 25 year period I starting to realise how challenging it was to return back into the workplace. I personally found I quickly felt out of the loop after only several months, an experience shared by many close friends. My own experiences of feeling socially isolated and lonely were very real, affecting not only my perception of myself professionally, but was all consuming personally with feelings of self doubt, diminishing self confidence and self-esteem, feeling trapped in a vicious cycle and feelings of pending doom. I started to think ‘I need to do something’

  • Eureka moment
Before relocating to Ryedale in November 2015 a friend said one day “You’re an inspiration to me”. This was the catalyst for me to start taking seriously the idea of a business venture to help women returners back into the workplace.

  • Future Intentions founded 2016
At this point FUTURE INTENTIONS was born in 2016. This eureka moment came months after devastating news from the SSE Lloyds Programme that I hadn’t secured a place on the programme, months of hard work and then nothing.

  • 2 long months…
It must have taken at least 2 months to get my head back into things. I think the worse blow was getting to the final 30 applicants from over 150 applicants. I was very proud of this, but it still knocked my confidence, but never my passion.

  • Back in the game!
After the summer I continued with my idea and approached the local job centre to find out if I was eligible to apply for the Enterprise Allowance Scheme, I told them about my idea and they arranged a meeting with Yorkshire Coast Enterprise who helped me to put together my business plan.

  • A new path
Exciting but scary! My business plan was approved and it was arranged for me to receive the Enterprise Allowance, although it could not secure a long term financial future, but was enough to pay the bills and start building a reputation. I started advertising across York, Scarborough and Ryedale and attended as many Job Fairs and Business Networking events as possible.

  • Steady, we grow…
I started establishing the service in Ryedale and proposed to roll out the services fully to York and Scarborough throughout 2017/2018. Future Intentions has two groups running in Norton (Tuesdays) and Scarborough (Wednesdays) for new and established clients to enjoy a cuppa and chat and a Weekly support drop in for clients to receive 1:1 ongoing support. These groups are free to attend to ensure those women who struggle with financial hardship can still join in and maybe make a friend or two along the way and getting the right support at the right time.
